If you are a non-EU/EEA/Swiss citizen, you must obtain a student visa from the nearest Polish embassy or consulate. Once you arrive in Poland, you need to apply for a temporary residence permit, ideally at least 45 days before your visa expires, to extend your stay.
If you are a citizen of the EU, EEA, or Switzerland and plan to study in Poland for more than three months, you only need to register your stay in the country, as visas are not required for those holding a “laissez-passer.”
Please note: Your student visa only allows you to live and study in Poland; it does not permit residence or study in any other country.

You can apply for a Poland visa at one of the following locations, depending on your place of residence:
The Polish embassy or consulate in your country.
The Polish embassy or consulate in a nearby country.
The embassy or consulate of another Schengen country that handles visa applications on behalf of Poland.
A private visa application center or agency authorized by the Polish embassy to manage visa submissions.
To apply for a Poland student visa, follow these steps:
Locate the nearest Polish embassy or consulate and schedule an appointment. You can do this through the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ e-Konsulat website.
Fill out the visa application form on the e-Konsulat website while booking your appointment.
Gather all the required documents to support your application, including your university acceptance letter. (See the full list of required documents under “Supporting Documents” below.)
Submit your application in person at the embassy or consulate on the scheduled date.
Attend a visa interview if requested. Some embassies may require an interview to assess your eligibility.
Wait for the decision. The embassy will inform you of the processing time, which is usually about 15 days.
Here are the required documents for a Poland visa application:
Two completed Poland visa application forms. You can fill these out on the E-Konsulat website.
Two recent passport-sized photos that meet Poland’s visa photo requirements.
Your valid passport, which should be valid for at least three months beyond your return date. Also, provide photocopies of your passport pages.
Health insurance covering at least the initial period of your stay until you arrange long-term student health insurance in Poland.
Proof of accommodation, such as a dormitory contract or student apartment agreement.
Proof of financial means to cover your expenses during your stay:
Non-EU students must show at least 2,500 PLN (about $618) for a return ticket. EU students need 500 PLN (about $123), and students from neighboring countries only 200 PLN (about $50).
You need at least 776 PLN (about $192) per month for living expenses. For each additional family member accompanying you, show proof of at least 600 PLN (about $148) per month.
Housing costs are separate. For example, if your rent is 1,000 PLN (about $247), you need to show that amount on top of your monthly living expenses, totaling 1,776 PLN (about $439).
An official acceptance letter from the Polish university. It must include your name, type of study, and duration of the program, and be signed by the university.
An invitation letter, if you cannot provide a dormitory or rental contract. This letter must come from a guarantor who confirms they will support your stay in Poland.
Proof of language proficiency in English or Polish. Submit a diploma or certificate no older than three years showing your language skills. (This is not required if English is your native language.)
Scholarship documents, if applicable. If you have a scholarship, it should cover at least €631 per month to be valid for your visa application.
Proof of relationship status, such as a marriage certificate if you are married.
Proof of your flight booking, showing your arrival date and time.
Receipt of paid visa fee after submitting the long-stay visa application.
Make sure all documents are complete to avoid delays in your visa process.
Processing your Poland student visa can take up to 15 days after you submit your application. It is recommended to apply as soon as you receive your university acceptance letter, but no earlier than three months before your course start date. Please note, if you apply during the busy summer season, the processing time may be longer.
You can stay in Poland for up to 3 months with a Schengen visa, and up to one year with a national student visa.
If you plan to stay longer than three months, you must apply for a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP). When applying for the first time, the TRP allows you to stay in Poland for up to two additional years to continue your studies.
Keep in mind that, due to a high volume of applications, the processing time for the Temporary Residence Permit can take 8 to 10 months.
Yes, you can work in Poland with a student visa, as long as you have a valid residence permit. You are allowed to work part-time for up to 20 hours per week during your studies and full-time during academic breaks. However, it’s important to prioritize your studies since successfully passing your exams and completing each semester on time is essential for renewing your student visa.

If you want to stay in Poland after graduation, you will need to secure a job. To live and work in Poland after completing your studies at a Polish university, you must apply for a residence permit. However, if you are a citizen of an EU/EEA country or Switzerland, you only need to update your stay permit.
If you are an international student with a stable and regular income and have lived continuously in Poland for four years on a temporary residence permit, you may apply for a permanent residence permit.
Once granted, you will receive a residence card valid for ten years. After this period, you only need to renew the card every ten years without reapplying for the permit.
With a permanent residence permit, you can work in Poland without needing any additional work permits.
As an international student in Poland, you can choose to get health insurance either through the Polish National Health Fund (NFZ – Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia) or a private health insurance company.
To enroll in health insurance with the NFZ, you need to provide:
Your passport showing your current visa or residence permit
Your residence registration
A confirmation of student status issued by your university
Alternatively, you can purchase private health insurance from a local Polish company or an international insurance provider.
Without any health insurance, you will be responsible for paying all medical expenses out of pocket while in Poland.
